This is our 20th year of providing grinding services for clients from the most demanding industries, including the aerospace customer featured here. We have been this client’s primary provider of custom grinding for over 15 years. They enlisted us to grind stainless steel landing gear components for a commercial airline application. The parts were composed of 17-4 stainless steel. This is a particularly challenging material to work with due to its non-magnetic characteristics. However, we are well-experienced at Blanchard grinding non-magnetic materials, and are one of only a few shops that can provide the level of precision required.
The dimensions for the finished part measured .625” x 30” x 36”, and we were able to hold tolerances to ±0.005”. Not only did our work meet all of our customer’s specifications; they were so pleased with it that they have returned to us for repeat orders. We now grind and deliver 200 of these units per year for this client.
